In most cases, you must notify your local authority in writing under Section 80 of the Building Act 1984 at least six weeks before starting demolition. Notification is not required for internal demolition in occupied buildings, small structures under 50 cubic meters, greenhouses, sheds, and some agricultural buildings. After submitting the notification, the council will specify safety and environmental requirements.
